Question by coombsy12: Does anyone know of anything for college aged students to do during the summer within an hour of Minneapolis?
me and my roommates are bored and want to find some things to do during the summer. I’m looking for outdoor activities, good beaches, cliff jumping lakes, water parks, etc. Cheaper the better. Help us out, we’re not from around here and need to know the hot spots, Thanks.

There a several nice beaches on the lakes in Minneapolis; Nokomis, Hiawatha, Calhoun, Harriet and Cedar lakes all have at least one beach.
The Water Park of America is just west of Mall of America, and the number 5 bus from the mall can get you there is minutes (get off just after going under the bridges)
Minnehaha Falls Park is very pretty, and easy to get to from the 50th street station of the Hiawatha Line light rail. At the park you can rent surrey type bikes for 2 or 4 pedalers. There are some historic sight in the park, The John Stevens house (first housbuiltit in Minneapolis, the charming old Minnehaha station railroaddepot, and Longfellow gardens.
The are trails below the falls that lead to its outlet at the Mississippi Rriver, but the are closed this summer for reconstruction of retaining walls.
Take a stroll accross the Stone Arch bridge near downtown, and maybe see boats going through the St, Anthony Falls lock and dam.
The Mill City Museum is also nearby.
The Minneapolis Sculture garden is on the south end of the downtown area, the number 4 or 6 bus on Hennepin will take you there. You’ll see the famosu Spoonbridge and Cherry there.)
Como Zoo in st. Paul is on the 3 bus line which can catch on 4 ave & Hennepin.
Check the Minneapolis Park board website for the schedule and locals of free concerts and lays throughout the summer.
If If you have bikes, take the Grand Rounds, about 50 miles of the best scenery in Minneapolis. Bring a map, despite the name, there is a gap in the circle and you’ll need to now which streets will get back to it.
