Is it summer yet? Winter? Hell, I don’t even know anymore. I think we’re closer to next winter then last winter, but it’s still winter…ouch, my head hurts.

The ice in the foreground tells me it was cold enough last night.

The gate finally opened to Angora Lakes this morning – grabbed the dog and headed up to scope things out. A mile hike from the end of the road will lead you here, 1200 feet above Lake Tahoe and bordering Desolation Wilderness to the west. Angora Lakes Resort has been closed and buried under snow since last October. There’s a huge pile of avalanche debris lying out on the ice, swept down the cliffs last winter.

In the summer kids jump the 70 ft cliffs in the center of this image (and have been killed doing it) – googling "Angora Lake Cliff Jump" will lead you to all kinds of YouTube mayhem. I’ve jumped in this lake – if the fall doesn’t get you, the water temp. will…

I think the area is named for a herd of Angora goats that used to roam around up here.

Cheers,
Steve
