This isn’t the highest jump I’ve ever done, but it’s definitely the coolest. This photo was taken in Dark Canyon, Utah. The site is usually accessed after rafting through Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park. If you’re rafting Cataract, you’ll have a map, and the map will have Dark Canyon clearly marked on river left. The hike up the canyon to the jump site is approximately two miles. Triplet Falls, a small waterfall threesome which makes a good landmark, is a little over halfway there. Just keep walking upstream and you’ll get there. (Most people raft Cataract with a guide service, and the guides will know exactly where the jump site is. I’ve used Tag-a-Long Expeditions twice and loved them.

Check the water level before you jump. We’ve jumped in May and late September and it’s been fine, but it’s always better to double check. If you go in straight enough you can just barely touch sand at the bottom of the water. You can climb out next to the little waterfall that flows into the pool, or swim to the downstream end of the pool and walk out. Non-jumpers can still enjoy a good swim by walking in the latter way.
