Great Falls MD/VA Great Falls National Park located on the Potomac River splitting MD and VA is a great spot to Cliff Jump. Although a little dangerous with the rock face sloping in a little as it goes up, the occasional snake in the water, and strict parker rangers, the risk it deffinatly worth the rush. The MD side of the river offers two jumping spots a shorter, much safer one, at about 20 feet (although you have to climb down to it) and also a 40-50 foot ledge that is level with the trail it comes off of. Opposite these spots is one on the VA side of the river which you can swim across to. This one is about 65+ feet. *Watch out for the park rangers, you can usually hear their boats or helicopters coming down the river, which allows you enough time to go back into the trees.
Location:Great Falls, MD (its easiest to enter from the MD side) Coming from NorthTake 270 South To Exit 5, Falls Road. Vear Right onto Falls Road. Continue on Falls Until it Dead Ends ( approx 7 miles, feels like forever though)At the Dead end there will be a stop sign, on your right will be Great Falls National Park, DO NOT go in this entrence, Make a left on MacArthur at the stop sign. Continue for a little over a mile and you will come to a resturant on the right side of the road, across you will see gravel parking lots, usually full, park there. There will be a well kept gravel path leading to the potomac from the parking lot, cross over the bridge and go to the right. Walk along the path untill you see a big wooden crate on your left, (to the right should be water) near a dirt path. Follow the dirt path untill that dead ends.Make a right and continue, you should now be parrallel with the potomac river to your left. Walk about 75 yards then go left towards the potomac until you reach the edge of the rock face. Look down or up the river, depending on how far you walked, and look for the highest rock ledge, this is it, It is the tallest one. You might have to go back to the path and walk more because the rocks are hard to climb on.
