The Canajoharie Gorge, Canajoharie, NY. Directions: NY Thruway (I-90) to exit 29, halfway between Utica and Schenectady. After paying toll, turn left onto NY 5s East. Take first right, Cunningham Road, and go up the hill. Continue in an uphill manner, avoiding dead-end forks, until you get to a stop sign. Continue in a generally straight direction (almost due south), now onto Carlisle Road. Caslisle will fork hard to the left, but a new road (Old Sharon) will continue straight. At this fork, you should be able to see a baseball field in the distance to the right. Go straight ahead; the Park entrance (Wintergreen Park) will be shortly on the right, at the ballfield. Police there are mainly to enforce vehicle traffic, underage drinking, and bottles (they want no glass in the park). So drive slow, stop fully at all stop signs, and wear seat belts (I've been checked for all of these). Proceed to lowest level of park, near the water, and walk down along the creek to the falls (about 3/4 mile). The are many swimming holes of varying sizes along the way, as well as picnic areas and grills (parking and grills, first come first serve). It's a great place.
