Terrace Pond, West Milford NJ. To get there you have to take Rt. 23N…to get to 23 from the area of Pennsylvania or West NJ, take rt80 east and 23n’s exit is for Wayne. Go up 23N and take the CLINTON RD exit. You want to make a RIGHT on CLINTON rd. Continue down clinton rd for about 15 minutes, you will go through a housing development quickly and soon be in the woods and come up to a huge lake. The road will wrap you around a lake, and go from being really bumpy to nice and smooth. When the road begins to get smooth keep your eyes open for a white house on the right that will pop up in the middle of no where. After that house you will see a break in the woods and a huge clearing for power line towers. To the left side of the street is a small parking lot. Park there and begin hiking up the hill next to the power lines. It is legal to hike here, its a state park. As you go up the hill follow the BLUE/WHITE trail through the woods. This hike will take about 30 minutes. At one point youll come to a fork and see your standing high above a small lake on top of the mountain. IF you go right with the Blue trail, its an easier hike but leaves you off on the other side of the lake from the cliffs. Its an easy swim and theres a little beach there. IF you go left with the white trail, its a slightly harder hike with small boulders to tower and some swamp land, but it puts you right on the cliffs. The cliffs are like terraces, one is 35, one is 40/41 and the highest is about 45 (but requires a huge sprinting start to clear the lower to cliffs, you’ll eat lots of rock it you don’t make it) When there be sure to watch for a snapping turtle, he comes up from the water once in a while for air. He wont attack you in the water, but i wouldn’t want to cross his path or land on him.
Here are minor corrections. Ours and several other parties could not find the trail initially. As you go up the hill take a right half way up to follow the BLUE trail through the woods. This hike will take about 30 minutes. Soon, you will come to a T junction. Take a right. At one point youll come to a fork and see your standing high above a small lake on top of the mountain.
